Overview

Use this section to view the data on activities that matched the requirements for the Baseline Execution Index (BEI) check. This check measures the number of activities that have been completed as a ratio to those activities that should have been completed according to the baseline.

Only a subset of the activities in the open projects are checked to see if they are complete or should have been completed. WBS summary activities, activities with no actual finish date, milestones, and Level of Effort activities are removed from the subset to create the list of completed activities. WBS summary activities, milestones, Level of Effort activities, and activities with a baseline finish later than the data date are removed to create the list of activities that should have been completed. The number of completed activities is then divided by the number of activities that should have been completed to find the BEI ratio.

 

Why create a secondary baseline?

Possibly to track against the original baseline for variances.

I would like your help with the stages to changing the baseline dates in P6.

In P6 you create your schedule and then take a baseline (snapshot) of the schedule at a point in time. You use that baseline as your point of reference and the dates usually should not be changed. You are able to update the baseline dates in a baseline. You can do this in the same area you take the baseline by using "update baseline". It will take actuals and replace old baseline dates as well as new planned dates will replace the old baseline dates. Using the Update Baseline utility, you can update the original baseline plan with new activity, resource/role assignment, and project data. When updating a baseline, you can choose to update all activities or you can apply a filter to update activities that meet the filter’s criteria. You can also specify the types of data to update, including specific data related to activities, resources, costs, thresholds, and issues.

What is the current project?

The current project is the project schedule you are working in now. The current project can be selected as your baseline, but it has nothing to compare against. It is best to compare your current schedule against a baseline schedule.

What is a baseline?

A baseline is a snapshot of the project from a point in time. Usually a project baseline is created after the project schedule is approved. After the schedule has been entered into P6, it can be scheduled to see how the relationships effect the dates. After you have scheduled the project, you can create a baseline by going to Action>Define Baselines and saving a copy of the current project as a new baseline.

Is it OK to mark activities that are yet to be baselined with Actual Start date and Actual Finish date?

Activities with actual start and finish dates will become the baselined dates once we have set the baseline. Primavera will recognize the activities have been marked with actuals, so there is no reason for a “planned” or “baseline” date for this activities since we have actuals. As for charging time to these activities,

User wants to re-baseline so baseline dates match actuals.

Re-baseline will change BL Project Start and Finish to current project's Start and Finish. So yes, if actuals were entered the BL dates will reflect those after re-baseline.
