PVD Considerations

PVD CONSIDERATIONS
PRINTING
Printer Options:
From the File menu, select Print. The Print dialog box opens.
In the Name menu, the options are as follows:
    • Universal PDF Viewer to open a PDF of your P6 Professional screen in your local PDF viewer.
    • Universal PDF Printer to print a PDF or hard copy of your P6 Professional screen using the default printer on your local machine.
    • Print to PDF to print a copy of your P6 Professional screen to a PDF file in a location you specify.
Note: Oracle recommends using the Print to PDF option unless you want to print to a physical printer.
Printing to Default Printer:
In order to print to the default printer assigned to the individual computer via PVD, the “Universal PDF Printer” must be enabled.  If required, Oracle can assist with enabling this via an SR.  This configuration change is global in nature and would apply to all users.   The Universal PDF printer will automatically map to user's default printer, anything that is printed to Universal PDF printer will automatically print to the user's default printer.
This feature requires Adobe Acrobat reader to be installed on the user's machine. Please also note that the default printer on the user’s local machine will have to be set with correct printing preferences like page size etc. before launching PVD, for PVD to honor these settings when using “Universal Print to PDF”
Note: When “Universal PDF Printer” is set in print set up, the page setup will not let you choose a paper size or set other settings since these settings are obtained from your local default printer to which “Universal PDF Printer” maps and sends the print out.
Print From “Page Setup” or Print Preview using "Print to PDF"
Note: “Print to PDF” requires the user to navigate to their local drive. Navigation speeds through drives will vary and are dependent on the network conditions at the moment.  The amount of time taken for the pdf to be ready at destination will also depend on the number of pages being printed, along with network conditions.
1.            From the File menu, select Print Setup. The Print dialog box opens.
2.            In the Name menu, select one of the “Print to PDF”:
3.            In the Size section, select the paper size you want to use for the PDF file.
4.            Select Properties (Optional) to configure final PDF output settings.
5.            Click OK.
6.            In the save dialog box:
§   If you see a Network icon, double click Network and then double click tsclient to list your local drives. Browse to your desired location and provide a file name for the PDF, then select OK.
§   If you do not see a Network icon, select the desired folder location from the list and provide a file name.
In the Report Printed dialog box, select OK.
Note: At each step there might be a delay. The length of the delay depends on several factors, including the bandwidth of your connection, network latency, and the number of pages in the report. You must wait for each of these steps to be completed before continuing to work in Primavera Virtual Desktop.
Print Directly (Not through Preview)
1.      From the File menu, select Print. The Print dialog box opens.
2.      In the Name menu, select one of the following:
·         Universal PDF Viewer
·         Universal PDF Printer
·         Print to PDF
Note: Oracle recommends using the Print to PDF option unless you want to print to a physical printer.
Print to PDF option allows:
Select Properties to configure final PDF output settings.
3.      Click OK.
4.      In the save dialog box:
·   If you see a Network icon, double click Network and then double click tsclient to list your local drives. Browse to your desired location and provide a file name for the PDF, then select OK.
·   If you do not see a Network icon, select the desired folder location from the list and provide a file name.
5.      In the Report Printed dialog box, select OK.
Please Note: At each step there might be a delay. The length of the delay depends on several factors, including the bandwidth of your connection, network latency, and the number of pages in the report. You must wait for each of these steps to be completed before continuing to work in Primavera Virtual Desktop.

PVD Print Queue
These steps only apply to Universal PDF printer and viewer. (Not to Print to PDF printer)
To view the Print Queue for PVD:
1.       Navigate to Browser for Account
2.       Select the tab entitled "Oracle Secure Global Desktop"
3.       Scroll to the bottom of the page, on the Left Navigation pane, there is a "List All Jobs" button.

Print to PDF – Overwrite Caution
When printing to pdf in PVD, the default is to overwrite the existing file. However, users can choose to change this using printing preferences, following these steps:
4.       Click on Properties next to the "Print to PDF" printer.
5.       Select "Destination" and click on options button next to "File System"
6.       Select the appropriate overwrite option and click OK to close the dialogs.

Header and Footer Timestamps
Print preview time stamps in header and footers in PVD may not show time in local timezone. If this occurs, an SR should be logged to resolve. This configuration change is global in nature and would apply to all users.

SCHEDULING
Log File Location
When scheduling and logging to a file in PVD, ensure that the log file location is set to a folder on the local drive. The log file can then be opened from the users machine and is not restricted to the PVD window.

NETWORK
Network Connectivity Loss
PVD may crash to due to network connectivity loss. If this happens, please first ensure that you have a reliable internet connection with your provider before logging back into PVD.

DATABASE ALIAS
Database Alias
·         Oracle does not currently support remembering last selected database alias and destination file locations inside P6 when using PVD.
·         Default is not changeable at this time for the Database alias.

DISPLAY
Resizing the PVD window
The PVD window can be resized to stretch across multiple screens.  Click the corner of the window, while holding down the Shift key.  (Doc ID 2324289.1)
Moving popup windows
Pop up windows within P6 such as SchedLog.txt that occur within the PVD window cannot be moved outside of the PVD session.  To view a larger version, it is best to scale the entire PVD box as defined above.

MISCELLANOUS
Numlock Issue
In some cases, it has been found that the user keyboard numlock status may not sync to PVD.  The workaround for this issue is to use the numbers on the keyboard that are located above the letter keys.

XER Import
Importing large XERs when using PVD may be slow, depending on network conditions and the size of the XER file.   If this is the case, imports can be done using Cloud Connect.   The P6 team is targeting improvements in this area for 18.8.1 (Bug 28268233), scheduled to be released in September 2018.

Tablet Mode / HTML5
Tablet / HTML5 modes are not currently supported for PVD.

User receiving emails from donotreply@oracle.com

When resetting the passwords, users will receive an email from donotreply@oracle.com

Adding codes from other databases. When I went to clean these codes up last time, all of our standard codes were deleted out of the system

Regarding the issue mentioned with convoluted codes due to XER, the customer should consider using XML instead. We solved this problem many releases ago with XML import. Basically, XER pollutes the global data because everything gets imported as global data. With XML, you have more control over what to import and where to import it. I can choose to import a new code but only import as a project code so it doesn’t mess with everything else.Issue was fixed in 18.8.0.1.

How to create an Unattended Setup using the P6Professional-setup.msi (Doc ID 1580264.1)

P6 has the ClickOnce option which we’ve developed to help the end user install and get updates with no IT intervention. Customers can also modify the installation process and create their own unattended setup that would be similar to ClickOnce. However, the unattended setup does not automatically account for upgrades and patches. I would suggest that a customer use ClickOnce.

Where can I find information on backup and restore of database?

What is Oracle Secure Global Desktop (SGD)?

Oracle Secure Global Desktop

Oracle Secure Global Desktop (SGD) is a secure remote access solution for any cloud-hosted enterprise applications and desktops running on Microsoft Windows, Linux, Solaris and mainframe servers, from a wide range of popular client devices, including Windows PCs, Macs, Linux PCs, and tablets such as the Apple iPad and Android-based devices.  Oracle Secure Global Desktop gives users the ability to work securely from any device and anywhere, while providing administrators the tools they need to control access to applications and desktop environments resident in the data center.

Oracle Secure Global Desktop is great for users inside the corporate firewall, and via the SGD Gateway, for users outside the firewall too. No VPN is required.

And SGD is certified for use with Oracle’s web-based applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Primavera and many others- and is also certified for use with Oracle’s Exalogic Elastic Cloud system to provide secure access directly to Oracle Applications co-resident in Exalogic for an exceptionally responsive user experience.

How Can Microsoft Azure Active Directory be Configured As The Identity Provider For Primavera P6 EPPM Cloud Environments?

In case any of your customers ask about this integration. They can use this doc/link as a starting point, but eventually may need to submit a SR for assistance.

In P6 cloud I want to set the default number of activities.

Your administrator can set a default value for the max number of activities that appear on the activities page. On prem can be done by someone local, but cloud will need to be done by Oracle Support via the SR process. It is not always allowed as this can impact performance because of load time.

Links for Team Member & Onboarding New Users

Here is a link to the documentation that is pretty comprehensive.  The second link is a video of Team Member.

If you want to upgrade from version earlier than 7.0 to 18.x.

If you have a version of P6 on premises that is prior to 7.0, it will need to be upgraded to 7 before it can go to the current version.

If a user's email address is deleted, will their access be denied?

No, they will still be able to access P6. The only way to disable them is to go into the cloud administration section>select user>disable.

Can you create another cloud administrator once provisioning is complete in the cloud?

Yes, you can create another cloud administrator in the cloud administration area. You can get there from the cloud portal screen. It is located on the lower left hand corner. Once there, you can go to the user>application access>select cloud administrator and move it to the right for the user to have that access.

Project scheduled services not running.

If your project scheduled services stop running or get hung up, go to the Projects Tab and there is a drop down for Project Scheduled Services. On the tool bar there is an icon that is a letter with an arrow. That is the service log. Bring that up to view why the service may have stopped or got hung up.

User is provisioned in the cloud admin, but can't log in after receiving notification email.

There may be a time when you have been provisioned in the cloud admin and received the email to log on and can't get in. This is usually just the outcome of a browser that  needs to be cleared of all history. Clear out the browser history as well as the Java console history. Computer>Control Panel>Java>General>Settings>Delete files. Re-launch the browser and try to login.

Login Page says one version, but software appears to be another.

With P6 EPPM cloud utilizing Oracle Identity Manager as well as Oracle Access Manager, the first login page may have a different version than what the software is as these are separate components. The skin may all look identical, but they are separate components used together to managed the access and security of user login. Your software will be the latest version you upgraded to or purchased.

What happens when a customer is in the cloud and wants to upgrade the P6 Client?

Upgrading and Patching P6 Professional Scenarios

Every time a user attempts to log in to an instance of P6 Professional that has been installed using ClickOnce, P6 Professional checks the server from which it was launched for the most recent version of the application. If the version on the server is the same as the version the user is using, then nothing will happen and the user can begin to use the application. However, if a more recent version of P6 Professional becomes available as either a patch or an upgrade, then the Update Available dialog box will appear to users and prompt them to update or skip the P6 Professional version update.  Note: The Update Available dialog box appears only once for each new version of P6 Professional. If users choose to skip the version update, the Update Available dialog box will not display in the application until a newer version update becomes available on the server. The following sections describe the different patching and upgrading scenarios that users might experience.

Accepting a Version Update

When a user accepts the version update, that user’s P6 Professional instance will close and automatically patch or upgrade their instance. After the patching or upgrade process completes, P6 Professional launches to the application login page.

The following list represents the process a user experiences when accepting a version update:
A user attempts to log in to P6 Professional. P6 Professional checks the Oracle Primavera server for a new version of P6 Professional and determines that there is a new version of P6 Professional available that the user can download and install.
  1. The Update Available dialog box appears to the user. The user clicks OK.
  2. The user's instance of P6 Professional closes, the new version of P6 Professional downloads from the Oracle Primavera server, and P6 Professional silently updates to the most recent version. Users can check the progress of their update with the Updating P6 Professional dialog box.
  3. After the update completes, P6 Professional opens the Login to Primavera P6 Professional login page.

How does P6 schedule?

During scheduling, the CPM algorithm conducts a forward pass that calculates the earliest start and finish dates for each activity, based on the start or finish dates of predecessor activities along with the duration of the activity itself. It then conducts a backward pass to calculate the latest start and finish dates for each activity, based on the start or finish dates of successor activities and the duration of the activity itself. From these dates, the total float is calculated for each activity to determine how much scheduling flexibility each activity has. Activities that have zero float must start on time to prevent the schedule from slipping. These are the activities that define the project’s critical path.

P6 Web - Issue with Java.

You can incur a number of issues with Java related to the P6 Web application. Here are a few quick things you can do to troubleshoot.

1. Clear the browser history and cache.
2. Clear the Java Console files. Control Panel>Java>General>Settings>Delete Files.
3. Check the version's tested configurations to make sure you have the right browser, jre, and OS. Usually the culprit may be that you are using an incompatible version of the jre.
4. If using Firefox, make sure you are using a 32-bit jre as some versions of Firefox are 32-bit.
5. Make sure that when the jre is correct and the browser is launched that the browser is enabling the jre. On Firefox, you can check add-ons. On IE, you can check the control panel>advanced to make sure IE is picking up the jre.
6. Increase JVM memory for better performance.
7. Run time Java memory
8. Disable certificate revocation checks
9. Users must have unique Java cache area etc.
